EUR/USD: Some Profit Taking Possible This Week

(profit taken, looking to get short again)

The US Labor Department said employers added 214k new jobs to their payrolls last month. The unemployment rate fell to a fresh six-year low 5.8% from 5.9% in the previous month. The increase in employment was slightly weaker than the market consensus (231k) and our forecast (225k), but that was offset by a combined 31k upward revision to data for August and September. The employment-to-population ratio touched its highest level since July 2009, while the ranks of the long-term unemployed were the smallest in nearly six years.

Average hourly earnings’ growth is still sluggish. It was only three cents last month. Despite no acceleration in hourly earnings take-home wages are getting higher. It is because not only is the employment rising, but people are also putting in longer hours. Last month, the average workweek hit a near six-and-a-half year high.

The Federal Reserve last week struck a relatively upbeat tune on the jobs picture as it ended a bond-buying stimulus program. After the release of employment data, financial markets held to their view that benchmark rates would stay near zero until the second half of 2015.

The EUR/USD fell just after the release of the non-farm payrolls and reached its daily low at 1.2358 (slightly above the target of our short position). The USD depreciated afterwards on profit taking and small disappointment after weaker-than-expected headline non-farm payrolls figure. We have taken small profit on our short position (taken at 1.2530) after the EUR/USD had reached the stop-loss level at 1.2460.

The EUR/USD rose to 1.2489 today and in the opinion of GrowthAces.com the range of recovery is likely to be higher. An important short-term resistance is situated at 1.2533 (10-dma). We have place our sell offer slightly below that level – at 1.2530.

The medium-term outlook remains bearish. The volatility on the FX market is likely to be lower this week and there will be also no triggers that could change the main trends. Moreover, we have Veteran’s Day on Tuesday in the USA.

Significant technical analysis’ levels:

Resistance: 1.2520 (200-hma), 1.2533 (10-dma), 1.2577 (high Nov 4)

Support: 1.2358 (low Nov 7), 1.2342 (low Aug 21, 2012), 1.2295 (low Aug 20, 2012)

USD/CAD: The Loonie Came From Behind After Jobs Report

(we’ve placed our bid at 1.1270)

Canada unexpectedly added 43.1k new jobs in October, and the unemployment rate dropped to a nearly six-year low of 6.5% from 6.8% in September. A loss of 5k was expected after September’s strong gain of 74.1k. The labor participation rate stayed at 66.0%, the lowest since November 2001.

The 12-month gain was 181.8k, with the growth in September and October of this year accounting for two-thirds of the increase. The two-month total gain of 117.2k jobs was the greatest since the 147.5k recorded in March and April of 2012.

After good employment report we should remind last-week speech of the Bank of Canada Governor Stephen Poloz. He said persistently sluggish job creation record and slack in the economy were among the reasons to keep interest rates low.

The CAD rallied against the USD to 1.1312 after the release of the employment report. We expect the USD to weaken slightly on profit taking this week butthe medium-term outlook is still bullish. We are hunting for lower levels to get long on the USD/CAD. GrowthAces.com has placed its bid offer at 1.1270.

Let’s take a look at macroeconomic calendar. Canadian housing starts data are scheduled for today. Manufacturing sales figures will be released on Friday.

Significant technical analysis’ levels:

Resistance: 1.1367 (hourly high Nov 7), 1,1450 (session high Nov 7), 1.1466 (high Nov 5)

Support: 1.1264 (low Nov 3), 1.1239 (30-dma), 1.1181 (low Oct 31).

Softball Tips: How to Stay Fit and Healthy to Improve Your Game through Good and Proper Nutrition

by

Marc-Olivier Dagenais

Today, there are many

softball tips

out there that proliferate everywhere, which aim to help softball players to improve their game. But to the average Joe, softball is just a game where it’s just another team sport where guys or girls pitch and hit the ball and run around in a diamond inside the field. Little does he know that in order to be a good softball player, he must ensure that he gets the right types of food in the right amount.

Here are some softball nutrition tips that you can learn and apply not just to boost your game but also improve your physique so you would be able to perform better whether inside or outside the field.

1.Hydrate yourself. Be sure to drink a lot of water, typically seven to eight glasses a day, to keep yourself hydrated, especially when you’re playing softball outdoors.

2.Drink coffee in moderation. Coffee, a stimulant, is said to cause dehydration but if this is taken in moderate amounts, it can help increase your alertness while on the field.

3.Avoid consuming too much energy drinks. Recently, studies were conducted that showed energy drinks containing cocaine, an illegal drug that causes alertness and hyperactivity on the person who consumes it. The problem with energy drinks is that they can be addictive and at the same time, they are composed of different chemicals that are harmful to your body.

4.Consume sports drinks. These drinks contain active ingredients that help replenish electrolytes that normally gets lost when you engage in physically-demanding activities like softball. At the same time, they provide energy that you can use while you play the game.

5.When hungry, eat. Skipping a meal isn’t healthy and if your stomach is often empty, this would surely affect your game. You need to stay sharp and alert so, better follow a proper diet, eating quality food, to keep yourself mentally and physically fit.

6.Avoid drinking soda, juice and tea. The reason behind this is that these drinks cause dehydration. So, it would be better if you stick to water and sports drinks.

7.Go for foods rich in carbohydrates, proteins, vitamins and minerals. Examples of foods that are recommended for softball players are whole grains, grapes, salmon and broccoli.

8.Avoid eating foods with artificial ingredients. Never eat processed food like bacon and hotdog as they don’t contain the nutrients your body needs.

9.Always opt for fresh foods. The fresher they are, the better.

10.Go for vegetable juices. Vegetables are definitely good for your body as they provide enough vitamins and minerals to improve not just your performance physically but they also boost your immune system as well.

11.Eat enough protein. Examples of foods that are rich in high-quality protein are fish, egg whites and beans. Avoid consuming simple or refined carbohydrates such as flour and sugar.

12.Spread your meals throughout the day. It’s healthy to eat small meals five to six times a day as this boost your metabolism and in turn, this enhances your strength, power and your energy flow on a daily basis.

13.Avoid taking nutritional supplements. Many nutritional supplements promise to boost your performance as an athlete but the truth is, they don’t actually work as there’s no scientific findings to actually support the claims. What you need to do instead is to go for quality nutrition.

14.Consume alcohol moderately. It’s widely known that alcohol causes dehydration and it can even disable you from reaching your optimum performance if you consume alcohol regularly.

15.Bring healthy foods with you, especially when you’re outside your house. Instead of going for burgers and fries, pack healthy snacks like fruit and granola bars for you to munch on.

Wikimedia Foundation announces departure of general counsel Mike Godwin

Wednesday, October 20, 2010

This article mentions the Wikimedia Foundation, one of its projects, or people related to it. Wikinews is a project of the Wikimedia Foundation.

The Wikimedia Foundation, a non-profit organization which administers online collaborative websites including Wikipedia and Wikinews, announced yesterday that its general counsel Mike Godwin will leave his position this Friday. The author of Cyber Rights: Defending Free speech in the Digital Age, Godwin is a former fellow at the Yale Center for Internet Studies and staff counsel for the Electronic Frontier Foundation who has served as chief lawyer for the Wikimedia Foundation since July 2007.

Executive Director of the Wikimedia Foundation Sue Gardner announced the news in a public email. She wrote, “Hi folks, I want to let you know that as of this Friday, October 22, 2010, Mike Godwin will be leaving his role as General Counsel for the Wikimedia Foundation. Mike’s transition out of the role will be a fairly lengthy one: he will continue to be available to the Wikimedia Foundation to provide information and advice for several months to come.”

The Wikimedia Foundation believes Mike has always acted in what he believes to be the Wikimedia Foundation’s best interests.

Gardner stated in a “Q and A” below the text of her email that Godwin was leaving the organization due to “a confidential personnel issue”, and explained that the foundation would not elaborate upon this due to privacy concerns. Gardner noted, “The Wikimedia Foundation believes Mike has always acted in what he believes to be the Wikimedia Foundation’s best interests.”

Godwin has focused his legal career in the areas of free speech and Internet law. In an article regarding his 1999 selection as a fellow at the Yale Center for Internet Studies, The Hartford Courant characterized Godwin as “a noted cyberspace lawyer and civil libertarian”.

He is noted for writing “Godwin’s Law”, an Internet maxim which states, “As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches one.”

Godwin became the first attorney to join the Electronic Frontier Foundation after its formation in 1990. In a 2007 interview with The New York Times, Godwin commented on the issue of defamation online, “The fear of defamation on the Internet is very strong. We’re going to be riding that social panic for a little bit.” He described his role at the Wikimedia Foundation, “Part of my job is to prevent restrictive rules from being put in place that prevent people from participating in massively democratic participatory media. And then let the new norms settle.” He acknowledged he empathized with others that had been criticized on the Internet, “Look, I have been smeared online. I know how bad it feels. It hurts. If democracy were comfortable, everybody would have it.”

Conduit, a subsidiary of the US directory assistance organisation kgb, is to create six hundred new jobs in the Welsh capital Cardiff by the end of 2012. Conduit is currently searching for 320 employees and intends to employ a further 280 this year.

The new employees will work at Fusion Point, an office area in Cardiff city centre. Prior to this announcement, Conduit already had in excess of 1900 employees within three Welsh bases in Cardiff Gate, Swansea, and Cardiff city centre. BMW announces 7.6% sales rise as US, China demand grows

Tuesday, August 9, 2011

Automobile manufacturing company BMW has announced that its sales increased by 7.6 per cent during the month of July. BMW reported that 129,094 units were sold during the month, consisting of the motor vehicle brands of BMW, Mini and Rolls-Royce Motor Cars.

In a statement, Ian Robertson, member of the Board of Management of BMW, told of the company reporting “the most successful July sales ever”, claiming that it is “well on [the] way to achieving our recently announced target of over 1.6 million vehicles in 2011, the best ever sales result for the BMW group”.

Demand increases were notable in the United States and China in particular. 21,409 vehicles were delivered by BMW in the United States in July, an increase of 11.7 per cent from July 2010. In China, 18,858 units were sold in the month, meaning a sales rise of 36.1 per cent on the same month last year, with the increased popularity being attributed to “substantial gains in many markets”, BMW said. Sales increases were also reported in South Korea, Russia, India and Brazil. BMW did admit to a decrease of sales by 0.8% in Germany, the country in which the company is based.

[BMW has had] the most successful July sales ever

As a brand, BMW sales stood at 108,721 for July, 7.1% more than July 2010. In the year to date, BMW delivered 962,468 vehicles, a 17.9 per cent rise. According to Agence France-Presse (AFP), developing markets have become the cause of the substantial popularity of high quality automobile manufacturers. However, growth in this area may decline later on in the year, due to the difficulties facing the global economy, AFP claims.

Meanwhile, General Motors stated on Friday that its China sales decreased by 1.8 per cent in July this year compared to the same month in 2010. This was due to a lowered demand for commercial vehicles, AFP reported.

How To Prevent Dementia}

Submitted by: Adrian Joele

If you have read my article about “How to Save Your Brain”, I don’t have to

tell you again about the devastating effects this disease called “Alzheimer’s

dementia” has on a person’s life.

Dementia takes away meaningful life and leaves us trapped in our own bodies.

Besides the fact that you are not be able to recognize family and friends,

ut also are not be able to perform the simplest tasks.

Today, more than two million Americans are affected by Alzheimer’s disease

and is the most important reason why people move to a nursing home.

According to research, nearly 50% of the population will suffer from this disease

y the age of eighty. There are even people who are developing Alzheimer’s

in their fifties.

Losing our ability to think is most devastating. Anyone dealing with Alzheimer’s

within his or her own family understands this tragedy.

It does not make much sense to reach the ripe old age of 89 when you have

not be able to recognize your family for years.

For this reason it is of paramount importance to protect the health of your brain.

Medical research has proven without any doubt that Alzheimer’s disease,

Parkinson’s disease and other neuro degenerative disease are the result of free

adical damage and oxidative stress.

The reasons why the brain and nerves are vulnerable to oxidative stress

and damage are:

1. Depending on its size, a significant number of free radicals are

created, caused by an increased rate of oxidative activity.

2. The levels of antioxidants within our brain and nerve tissue

are relativily low.

3. Oxidative stress can easely cause damage to our central

nervous system and once it is damaged, it may be a lifelong

handicap.

A recent report by research at Case Western Reserve University concluded

that an increase of oxidative stress with age may account for all aspects of

Alzheimer’s dementia. There is strong evidence that patients with Alzheimer’s

have significantly depleted levels of antioxidants in their brain and high levels

of oxidative stress.

There is strong interest in an attempt to prevent this oxidative damage by

giving the patients various antioxidants.

A study reported by the New England Journal of Medicine in April 1997

showed that the progression of Alzheimer’s could be significantly slowed

down by supplementing high doses of vitamin E.

Patients were be able to stay two to three years longer at home.

Other trials, where Alzheimer’s patients used various antioxidants

like vitamin C, vitamin A, vitamin E, zinc, selenium and rutin have been

encouraging.

A Cache County Study revealed that supplementation with a combination

of vitamin C and vitamin E reduced the prevalence of Alzheimer’s dementia.

It is obvious that, considering this kind of effect on patients with moderately

severe Alzheimer’s dementia, what would be the effect on people who are

just dianosed with this disease?

Would it be possible to decrease the risk of getting Alzheimer’s alltogethe

y taking optimum levels of antioxidant supplements?

Grape seed extract is ideal for preventing Alzheimer’s as it crosses easely

the blood-brain barrier and is able to get into the fluid around the brain

and the brain itself. It’s a very potent antioxidant, 50 times more than

vitamin E and 20 times more than vitamin C

Once in the brain, the proanthocyamidins in the grape seed, trap and

neutralize damaging hydroxyl free radicals that can oxidize DNA and

essential brain lipids, disturbing normal brain function.

Studies have shown that Phosphatidylserine can stimulat the release

of acetylcholine and improve the cognition of patients with dementia.

It has also been shown to improve mood, memory and cognition and

has proven to be more effective wen used with Ginko biloba

( which increase blood supply to the brain) and omega-3 fatty acids,

which not only improve mood and combat depression, but also improve

cogniton. It significantly decrease inflammation, which is the enemy of

normal brain function.

CoQ10 has been shown to improve or at least slowed down the

progression of Alzheimer’s disease with high dose supplementation.

CoQ10 is not only a strong antioxidant, but also produce energy within

within the cell and has to be supplemented with 400 to 600 mg in gel form

,as it is more difficult to get through the brain barrier and into the brain.

Avoid any exposure to heavy metals like aluminun, mercury, cadmium etc.

as they leave deposits in our central nervous system.

They are also known to increase free radical production and cause tissue

damage via oxidative stress.

Also avoid antipresperants that contain aluminum. Anything you put on

your skin will be absorbed into the body. Avoid the use of mercury

amalgams for your dentures.

Taking an agressive nutritional supplement program, along with a healthy

diet and a modest exercise program is the best way to prevent Alzheimer’s

disease.

It is always easier to protect your health than it is to regain it once you

have lost it In particular with any case of dementia.

Mayors back global warming pact

Sunday, May 22, 2005

Going against the Bush administration’s opposition to the Kyoto Protocol, more than 130 U.S. mayors have pledged to meet or beat certain Kyoto targets by 2012. Examples include anti-sprawl land-use policies or encouraging cruise lines to turn off their engines while docked.

Critics of the Kyoto Protocol claim it is unnecessary, due to an alleged or perceived lack of clear evidence that global warming is due to human activities.

US Homeland Security Department doubts credibility of New York subway threat

Wednesday, October 12, 2005

The US news agency CNN is reporting that the recent New York subway terrorist threat this past weekend was based on “false information.” The original tip lead to the arrest of three men in Iraq with suspected ties to the plot; however, under interrogation which included lie detector tests, investigators discovered they had no knowledge of any planned terror attacks on the New York subway system.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) was skeptical of the threat since it was first announced last week. More recently, Russ Knocke, a spokesman for the DHS, said “The intelligence community has been able to determine that there are very serious doubts about the credibility of this specific threat.”

Responding to the new comments from the DHS, New York City Mayor Bloomberg replied, “We’ve got to take every threat seriously and that is what we are going to do.” Even before the new questions about the tip’s accuracy, Mayor Bloomberg was already defending his decision to increase security and promised that the measures will remain in place for at least the near future. Mayor Bloomberg explained that, while he did not believe he made a mistake in calling for increased security, “If I’m going to make a mistake you can rest assured it is on the side of being cautious.” New York City Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly agreed, adding, “We did exactly the right thing.” Critics of Bloomberg have charged that the threat was a bid to “look strong” in support for his upcoming re-election attempt.
