The Power Of 15 Minutes To An Organized House

By Judith Davis

Being a stay at home mom you would think I have a spotless organized house. One of those homes that is ready for company at any given time. You would be wrong. I have to say that I think there are a lot of other stay at home moms that do not have organized house either.

It seems to take a certain type to be able to keep a house like that. An organized house just is not in the cards for me, unless I harness the power of the fifteen minutes. What does fifteen minutes have to do with an organized house? Well quite a bit if you sit and think about it. What can you do in fifteen minutes that will give your house that organized house look?

Fifteen Minutes to Clean floors – It takes me fifteen minutes to sweep and swiffer my tile floors downstairs. This is the entrance to my house. This is where people get the first impression. Where better to use your fifteen minutes to a better organized house?

Fifteen Minutes to Clean the stove top – This chore may take less than fifteen minutes. But it is a chore that often times we put off until we have to do it. This makes our homes less like an organized house. Take that fifteen minutes and clean the top of your stove. I didn’t say the oven. Just the wipe down the outside. Even take a second to wipe down the stove hood. A fifteen minutes well spent to a more organized house.

Fifteen minutes to a vacuumed carpet – I think most of these fifteen minutes is spent empting the canister. I don’t have much carpet downstairs. It doesn’t take long at all. In fifteen minutes I can pour deodorizer on the carpet. I empty the vacuum. I still have time left to vacuum the living room and dining room floor. A carpet of an organized house that I could invite company into.

Fifteen minutes to dust the living room – We all have the concept that an organized house has no dust. Some don’t it’s true. If you take your fifteen minutes to just dust the stuff you have in your living room. It is the room in the house that you would invite people into. Just dust the things in the line of vision. If you have a lot of knick knacks this may take longer. If you have less it won’t take as long. Either way it is a fifteen minutes well spent.

Fifteen minutes to clean mirrors and screens – Take those fifteen minutes to clean those mirrors. Grab a coffee filter and your windex. Go through your house getting all the mirrors and screens. By screens I mean TV and computers. Nothing like making you feel like you live in and organized house than being able to look in that mirror by the door and seeing it sparkle.

Now I am not saying to take all these fifteen minutes at one time. Just break down what you want to get done. It looks like a lot less when you look at it in little chunks. You don’t even have to do it all in one day. Do your sweeping and swiffering on one day. Do your vacuuming and dusting another. The point is to spend your fifteen minutes doing something. It doesn’t take much to get to that organized house look that we all want.

Asbestos controversy aboard Scientology ship Freewinds

Friday, May 16, 2008

Controversy has arisen over the reported presence of blue asbestos on the MV Freewinds, a cruise ship owned by the Church of Scientology. According to the Saint Martin newspaper The Daily Herald and the shipping news journal Lloyd’s List, the Freewinds was sealed in April and local public health officials on the Caribbean island of Curaçao where the ship is docked began an investigation into the presence of asbestos dust on the ship. Former Scientologist Lawrence Woodcraft supervised work on the ship in 1987, and attested to the presence of blue asbestos on the Freewinds in an affidavit posted to the Internet in 2001. Woodcraft, a licensed architect by profession, gave a statement to Wikinews and commented on the recent events.

According to The Daily Herald, the Freewinds was in the process of being renovated by the Curaçao Drydock Company. The article states that samples taken from paneling in the ship were sent to the Netherlands, where an analysis revealed that they “contained significant levels of blue asbestos”. An employee of the Curaçao Drydock Company told Radar Online in an April 30 article that the Freewinds has been docked and sealed, and confirmed that an article about asbestos ran in the local paper.

Lloyd’s List reported that work on the interior of the Freewinds was suspended on April 27 after health inspectors found traces of blue asbestos on the ship. According to Lloyd’s List, Frank Esser, Curaçao Drydock Company’s interim director, joined Curaçao’s head of the department of labor affairs Christiene van der Biezen along with the head of the local health department Tico Ras and two inspectors in an April 25 inspection of the ship. “We are sending someone so that they can tell us what happened, where it came from, since when it has been there,” said Panama Maritime Authority’s director of merchant marine Alfonso Castillero in a statement to Lloyd’s List.

The Church of Scientology purchased the ship, then known as the Bohème, in 1987, through an organization called Flag Ship Trust. After being renovated and refitted, it was put into service in June 1988. The ship is used by the Church of Scientology for advanced Scientology training in “Operating Thetan” levels, as well as for spiritual retreats for its members. Curaçao has been the ship’s homeport since it was purchased by the Church of Scientology.

According to his 2001 statement, Lawrence Woodcraft had been an architect in London, England since 1975, and joined Scientology’s elite “Sea Organization” (Sea Org) in 1986. He wrote that he was asked by the Sea Org to work on the Freewinds in 1987, and during his work on the ship “noticed a powdery blue fibrous substance approximately 1 ½” thick between the paint and the steel wall,” which he believed to be asbestos. He also discovered what he thought was blue asbestos in other parts of the ship, and reported his findings to Church of Scientology executives. Woodcraft discussed his experiences in a 2001 interview published online by the Lisa McPherson Trust, a now-defunct organization which was critical of the Church of Scientology.

The Freewinds regularly inspects the air quality on board and always meets or exceeds US standards.

Church of Scientology spokeswoman Karin Pouw responded to Radar Online about the asbestos reports, in an email published in an article in Radar on May 1. “The Freewinds regularly inspects the air quality on board and always meets or exceeds US standards,” said Pouw. She stated that two inspections performed in April “confirmed that the air quality is safe,” and asserted that the inspections revealed the Freewinds satisfies standards set by the United States Occupational Safety and Health Administration and the U.S. Clean Air Act.

Pouw told Radar that “The Freewinds will be completing its refit on schedule.” The Church of Scientology-affiliated organization Citizens Commission on Human Rights (CCHR) had been planning a cruise aboard the Freewinds scheduled for May 8, but according to Radar an individual who called the booking number for the cruise received a message that the cruise had been delayed due to ongoing work on the ship. Citing an article in the Netherlands Antilles newspaper Amigoe, Radar reported on May 6 that a team from the United States and supervised by an independent bureau from the Netherlands traveled to Curaçao in order to remove asbestos from the Freewinds.

…if the Church of Scientology claims to have removed the blue asbestos, I just don’t see how, it’s everywhere. You would first have to remove all the pipes, plumbing, a/c ducts, electrical wiring etc. etc. just a maze of stuff.

“I stand by everything I wrote in my 2001 affidavit,” said Lawrence Woodcraft in an exclusive statement given to Wikinews. Woodcraft went on to state: “I would also comment that if the Church of Scientology claims to have removed the blue asbestos, I just don’t see how, it’s everywhere. You would first have to remove all the pipes, plumbing, a/c ducts, electrical wiring etc. etc. just a maze of stuff. Also panelling as well, basically strip the ship back to a steel hull. Also blue asbestos is sprayed onto the outer walls and then covered in paint. It’s in every nook and cranny.”

Many Scientologist celebrities have spent time aboard the Freewinds, including Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes, John Travolta, Kelly Preston, Chick Corea, Lisa Marie Presley, Catherine Bell, Kate Ceberano, and Juliette Lewis. Now magazine reported that Tom Cruise has been urged to seek medical attention regarding potential asbestos exposure, however a representative for Cruise stated he has “absolutely no knowledge” of the recent asbestos controversy. Cruise, Holmes, Travolta and Preston have celebrated birthdays and other events on the Freewinds.

There is not now and never has been a situation of asbestos exposure on the Freewinds.

In a May 15 statement to the United Kingdom daily newspaper Metro, a representative for the Church of Scientology said that “There is not now and never has been a situation of asbestos exposure on the Freewinds.” The Asbestos and Mesothelioma Center notes that agencies have recommended anyone who has spent time on the Freewinds consult with their physician to determine if possible asbestos exposure may have affected their health.

Raw blue asbestos is the most hazardous form of asbestos, and has been banned in the United Kingdom since 1970. Blue asbestos fibers are very narrow and thus easily inhaled, and are a major cause of mesothelioma. Mesothelioma is a form of cancer which can develop in the lining of the lungs and chest cavity, the lining of the abdominal cavity, or the pericardium sac surrounding the heart. The cancer is incurable, and can manifest over 40 years after the initial exposure to asbestos.

“This is the most dangerous type of asbestos because the fibres are smaller than the white asbestos and can penetrate the lung more easily,” said toxicologist Dr. Chris Coggins in a statement published in OK! Magazine. Dr. Coggins went on to note that “Once diagnosed with mesothelioma, the victim has six months to a year to live. It gradually reduces lung function until the victim is no longer able to breathe and dies.”

President of Guinea-Bissau assassinated

Monday, March 2, 2009

According to officials, João Bernardo Vieira, the president of Guinea-Bissau, was shot to death on Monday in his palace by renegade soldiers.

“President Vieira was killed by the army as he tried to flee his house which was being attacked by a group of soldiers close to the chief of staff Tagme Na Waie, early this morning,” Zamora Induta, a military spokesman, said to Agence France-Presse, insisting that “this was not a coup d’etat.”

“We reaffirmed our intention to respect the democratically elected power and the constitution of the republic,” he said. “The people who killed President Vieira have not been arrested, but we are pursuing them. They are an isolated group. The situation is under control.”

Induta also said that the president was “taken down by bullets fired by these soldiers,” and that afterwards they looted his home. “They were taking everything they could carry, his personal belongings, the furniture, everything,” Induta said.

The assassination is believed to be a revenge for a bomb blast that killed one of Vieira’s rivals, the army chief of staff General Batista Tagme Na Waie, just a few hours earlier.

The constitution says that the nation’s parliament chief, Raimundo Pereira, is to succeed Vieira in the case of his death.

Jean Ping, the chief executive of the African Union, said that the assassination of the president was a “criminal act”.

Guinea-Bissau, located on the western coast of Africa, has had a history of coups, and is one of the world’s poorest countries. It is notorious as being a transit point for the cocaine trade between Europe and South America.

João Bernardo Vieira, born in 1939, came to power in Guinea-Bissau during a coup in 1980, but was forced out in 1999 when a civil war started. In 2005, he returned from his exile in Portugal to participate in the nation’s elections, and won the vote.

Victoria Wyndham on Another World and another life

Thursday, December 13, 2007

Victoria Wyndham was one of the most seasoned and accomplished actresses in daytime soap opera television. She played Rachel Cory, the maven of Another World‘s fictional town, Bay City, from 1972 to 1999 when the show went off the air. Wyndham talks about how she was seen as the anchor of a show, and the political infighting to keep it on the air as NBC wanted to wrest control of the long-running soap from Procter & Gamble. Wyndham fought to keep it on the air, but eventually succumbed to the inevitable. She discusses life on the soap opera, and the seven years she spent wandering “in the woods” of Los Angeles seeking direction, now divorced from a character who had come to define her professional career. Happy, healthy and with a family she is proud of, Wyndham has found life after the death of Another World in painting and animals. Below is David Shankbone’s interview with the soap diva.

Home Design A Comfortable Bedroom}

Submitted by: H John Johnsen

When people look for a good bedroom decorating idea, the first thing they usually consider is bedroom furniture.

Keep in mind that you spend most of your time in the bedroom; so it should be very comfortable and sumptuous. Spending more on the linens will pay off by making the room more sensual and exciting. Dont be swayed by white sales unless you can get a good deal on high count linens. The higher the thread count; the better the softness. And; have you ever slept on sheets that feel like cardboard? The big hotel chains have it right when dealing with customers. Make the bed very comfortable and they will be back.

As a matter of fact; my wife loved a pillow so much at one hotel that she asked the manager the brand and she bought one. It was a little expensive; but she is very comfortable. Andisnt comfort what we all want?

If the room is small you should avoid crowding it with too much furniture. And; if you have a large bedroom, you should consider the scale of the items. Bigger rooms allow you to use higher and larger pieces. But overcrowding is something you should avoid. You will find that the more open space you have the more control and relaxation you will feel over your environment.

Before you go out to shop take measurements of the room. Use a piece of paper and write down the dimensions. The sales people can help you when it comes to the furniture sizes and what will (or wont) fit. This also helps you avoid having the big problem of returning the items because they didnt fit in the room.

Lighting

The type of lighting should be bright; but not glaring. Use low watt or energy saving bulbs. If you read you need a brighter bulb. Soft lighting works the best since you are in there to relax and sleep.

Flooring

There are several flooring options from stone and tile to wood. However, a good choice is soft carpet for your flooring, which, unlike tile and marble, will create a cozy feeling. But; if you like hardwoods or tiles consider using throw rugs at the sides of the bed. Think about getting out of bed and stepping on a cold floor. Wouldnt it be better to step on a soft and comfortable rug?

The Final Thought

Before buying, know your tastes, and special needs. Make a plan on paper. Figure out the colors you like. Decide on the furniture style. Consider the dcor style. Once you have all these ideas down and in your head you are ready to go shopping.

Also; today stores are looking for people to buy and making deals on the sticker prices is something you should do. Ask if you can purchase floor models or wait for sales. Delivery prices can be negotiated away if you are buying a good amount of items. Shop smart and you will be happy in the end.
