Why Oral Hygiene Matters

Submitted by: Patrick Boswell

If you think that going to the dentist is just a way to make your smile look nice, than I have to tell you that you are sadly mistaken! The fact of the matter is that a trip to the dentist isn t about vanity at all, no, a trip to the dentist is all about health. To be specific, oral hygiene is the name of the game when it comes to trips to the dentist.

Sure we all want a nice looking smile, but for many of us that isn t enough to get us to the dentist. What so many people fail to realize is that a trip to the dentist isn t just about keeping your smile looking its best, but rather a trip to the dentist is mostly about keeping your mouth healthy. In turn, when you keep your mouth healthy, you keep the rest of your body healthy as well. Many people fail to realize that the mouth can harbor bacteria and can actually be the cause of many other physical ailments. So the long and short of it is that it is simply the best idea to keep your mouth as healthy as possible by going to a dentist regularly for checkups and cleanings.

You can start to take care of your mouth by doing things like brushing and flossing, you might even try using a waterpik or mouth rinse, but what it comes down to is that good oral hygiene starts at home. How many times have we heard the classic line; You haven t been flossing, have you? Well these words are so well known because many people fail to do the simple things at home that could make their trips to the dentist just that much easier! Taking care of your teeth at home is the first step towards proper oral hygiene; the next step is to check in with your dentist on a regular basis to make sure that all is going well with your mouth and teeth.

If you have a fear of the dentist you can do much to make your visits shorter and easier by having exceptional oral health before you enter the door. This way the dentist will have relatively little to do! It seems like a common idea, but if you maintain your car regularly at home by cleaning it, changing the oil, changing the transmission fluid, flushing the cooling system, etc. you will have relatively few, and relatively brief trips to the mechanic. The same logic applies to your teeth as well. The more you do to maintain them in your own home the less you will have to have done in the dentist office. So start taking care of your teeth at home today by brushing, rinsing, flossing, and whatever else your dentist might recommend. That way you will be assured to have great oral health and simpler trips to the dentist, but always remember to keep up with your cleanings as well, it s always important to see your dentist for a routine cleaning.

Aesthetic Skin Care Tips: Simple Secrets To Minimizing Pore Size}

Submitted by: Dr Tyng Tan

One of the factors that contribute to the overall appearance of your face are your pore size. The smaller the pores, better. When they increase in diameter which can be caused by constant sun exposure, poor skin care, smoking, improper diet, acne, skin dehydration, or hormonal changes, it is when the problem starts.

Aside from the unattractiveness that an enlarged pore size does on your face, it introduces dirt, grime and bacteria into your skin. This can lead to an inflammatory response which can cause other skin condition, with acne as the most common among these as the pores become clogged.

So better minimize those pores through these simple tips which you can do on your own!

One of the simple remedy for enlarged pores which you can do at home is through steam therapy. You pour boiling water into a basin and at a safe distance, about 14 inches apart; you place your face above the basin. Place a towel over yourself and the basin to contain the steam.

The steam opens up your pores and stimulates your skin to produce sweat. As the pores open the sweat helps remove the dirt and oil that is clogging it. Do this for about 15 minutes and then wipe of the sweat with a clean towel after you are done.

You then follow this step by washing your face with fresh lemon juice. The acidic ph of lemon juice can help tighten your face and minimize your pores. In addition to that, lemon also has antioxidant properties that will help cleanse the skin and the pores better.

If you continue to do this for the next two weeks, you will see your face become tighter, smoother and glowing.

Rubbing ice on your face can also tighten your pores. Do this for 5-10 minutes daily and over time you will notice your skin being tightened better.

Another way is to mix yourself your own facial mask that will help minimize your pore size. By mixing salt and buttermilk and make it into a paste, you apply this on your face particularly on that space where the enlarged pores are concentrated. You leave it on for 5-7 minutes and then wash it off.

Other kitchen finds that you can use as face masks include mashed cucumber and mashed raw potato. You can alternate the two and leave them on your face for 15 minutes. They can help clear your skin, lighten it and effectively minimize an enlarged pore size.

You can also use the mixture of 2 tablespoons oatmeal and half a tablespoon of buttermilk as a facial mask. You leave this on your face for 20 minutes and then rinse it off, then you follow this with ice cube rub for better pore minimizing effect.

The juices of pineapple, peaches, papaya and tomatoes can be rubbed all over the face because these also have skin tightening properties. After you leave it on for a few minutes, you then rinse it with warm water.
