Steak Grades And Cuts, How To Know What To Buy

byalex

Before you put the first tender morsel of grilled steak into your mouth remember, it all starts with good raw meat. The issue is, how do you tell a good piece of meat from a bad piece?

A steak restaurant in Lindale TX does not have the same problem as the typical householder has, they buy steak day in and day out and they know a good piece from a bad piece intuitively. Most domestic purchases are made at the local supermarket or corner butcher where the consumer is faced with row upon row of steaks.

There are two things that determine the quality of a steak, the grade and the cut. The grade refers to the meats quality based on its aging and marbling, the cut is what most people look for when selecting meat for the grill.

Steak grades:

Steaks are graded more often than not by a government agency; the USDA is what it’s called in the USA. The animal’s age and the marbling of the meat are what are used to determine the grade. Beef, when graded, is not done piece by piece, the entire carcass is graded as one so there may be some minor variances when it comes to the individual cut of meat. The grades in the USA are prime, choice and select. Prime is the best of the best and select is the bottom grade. Most meat graded select never end up in a steak restaurant in Lindale TX; they end up as processed meat products.

Cuts classified as prime are very much in the minority, perhaps as little as 2% of the beef is graded prime. This meat either ends up in the best restaurants here or in the best restaurants abroad. The majority of meat that is on the shelf is USDA choice.

The amount of marbling is a prime factor in meat selection. The less marbling the more tender the met usually is but it lacks in flavor. Small streaks of fat running through the meat are desirable as it gives a more flavorful steak. It is a balancing act that needs to be done and a steak restaurant in Lindale TX is ideally placed to make this choice.

Steak Cuts:

Steak cuts can be segregated into three basics. The upper back to mid back gives the rib steak, the short loin and the sirloin. The rib gives rib roast, rib eye and back ribs, the short loin give the T-Bone, top loin, tenderloin and porterhouse. From the sirloin the butcher gets the sirloin steak and the top sirloin. New York cut, a popular steak comes from the T-Bone portion.

To experience all the best steak cuts at a steak restaurant in Lindale, TX, visit Jakes Tyler. Located in the historic district of downtown Tyler, Jakes bring you the best of the best, all served in a wonderful atmosphere.

Australian company to make solar power with space technology

Tuesday, August 15, 2006

Solar Systems Pty Ltd, Hawthorn, Victoria, have announced an agreement with Boeing Australia Ltd for supply of Spectrolab solar cells. The agreement will result in the supply of 500,000 cells, capable of generating 11MW of electricity.

Spectrolab produces multi-junction solar cells, originally designed for powering satellites. The solar cells are three times more efficient than the cells used in typical domestic solar panels, and are capable of converting light energy to electrical energy with up to 34% efficiency according to NREL’s National Centre for Photovoltaics. Solar Systems utilise Spectrolab’s multi-junction solar cells to increase the output of their dish systems.

Solar Systems have already trialed the cells in one of their CS500 concentrating solar dishes installed at a solar power station in Hermannsburg, Central Australia, established to reduce the consumption of diesel in the remote community. Simply replacing the existing cells with the Spectrolab multi-junction solar cells increased output from 24kW to 34kW.

Solar Systems is planning to use the technology in a solar power station it will build in northern Victoria, with a capacity of 154MW.

Zara Kay tells Wikinews about her non-profit organisation Faithless Hijabi

Monday, July 6, 2020

A number of Muslim-majority countries around the world implement Shari’a — commonly known as Islamic law — and have laws against apostasy and blasphemy. Numerous times, over the years, people have been sentenced to death penalty for renouncing Islam. In 2018, a Pakistani journalism student Mashal Khan was killed by a mob lynch after he was accused of blasphemy. At times there have been protests against the restrictions on free speech in Islam.

Other than the restriction of free speech, many Muslim majority countries have declared homosexuality as a capital crime, and observe a strict dress code for women. Iran has banned a number of female chess players for not wearing a hij?b. An Iranian woman was sentenced 20 years for removing hij?b while protesting the strict dress code.

Wikinews had gotten in touch with Tanzanian-born ex-Muslim Zara Kay to discuss the struggles an ex-Muslim woman faces, as well as her organisation: Faithless Hijabi.  Faithess Hijabi is an organisation which helps other ex-Muslim women by sharing their stories and experiences.  Its Facebook page has over 7000 likes, and Zara Kay, who identifies herself as an antithiest, had previously helped a Saudi teenager Rahaf Mohammed escape to Canada.

The following is the interview with Zara Kay that took place in 2019.

On Chexsystems? Consider Debit Card Accounts To Get Back To Banking

By Kurt Lehmann

If you’ve ever written a bad check (whether it was on purpose or accidental) or have had problems with banks, there’s a pretty good chance that you’re on a list maintained by ChexSystems. This list can cause you a lot of problems when it comes to getting a new bank account or doing other banking tasks. ChexSystems is a Consumer Reporting Agency, like TransUnion, Experian, and others. It provides a list of customers that it considers to be high risk to banks across the country.

Not everyone on this list really is a big risk, though. Some people end up on it because of errors in data, theft of their identities, and many other mistakes. Once you’re on the list, however, it becomes very hard to get a new bank account. Most banks use ChexSystems data to decide whether or not you’ll be allowed to open an account, whether or not that data is accurate. If you’ve been trying to find a bank that doesn’t use the ChexSystems database in your area, you might have gotten frustrated, and resigned to going through life without an account. However, don’t give up hope yet. Debit cards and Internet bank accounts are still an option.

If you’re tired of constantly carrying cash, getting money orders, and using check cashing services, getting a debit card account could be the answer you’re looking for. You can use these cards just like regular credit cards – at bookstores, gas stations, the grocery store, restaurants and online. Anywhere a Visa or MasterCard is accepted, you can use your debit card, including for getting cash from the ATM.

A debit card automatically deducts the amount of the purchase from your account, meaning that you don’t have to pay interest or deal with credit. Since the transactions show up on your bank statement, you’ll be able to track your spending. If you want, you can choose to have your paycheck deposited directly into your debit card account. That way, you won’t have to use check cashing stores to get your money.

The biggest difference between a regular checking account and a debit account is that you normally don’t get a checkbook with your debit card. You’ll be able to pay your bills online via Echeck, or automatic debit. Many people prefer to use online banking services (such as those provided by debit card accounts), because they are free — you don’t even need to pay for a stamp and an envelope! Further, using online banking makes it even easier to keep your account balanced, so you avoid further banking problems.

This means that you still get most of the advantages of an ordinary checking account. There are still plenty of banks that permit opening a debit card account for people who are on the ChexSystems list. That makes this an excellent option if you’re on the list and can’t find a local bank that doesn’t use it. A debit card account is a great alternative to an ordinary bank account.

US adds 173,000 jobs in August; unemployment rate drops to seven year low

Monday, September 7, 2015

The US economy added 173,000 jobs in August, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported on Friday. The unemployment rate fell from 5.3 to 5.1 percent, the lowest since April 2008.

Although August job gains were lower than most economists forecast, job growth numbers for June and July were revised upwards by a combined 44,000. Average job gains over the past three months stand at 221,000, compared to March-May’s 189,000 monthly average. Over the past twelve months, job growth has averaged 247,000 per month.

Average hourly earnings rose 0.3 percent, or 8 cents, marking the largest increase in earnings in seven months. Hourly earnings had risen by 6 cents in July. Wages have risen by 2.2 percent over the past year.

Job growth in August was primarily concentrated in the health care and social assistance, financial activities, and professional and business services sectors. Those three areas of the economy added a combined 108,000 jobs. Food service and drinking places employment increased by 26,000 over the month, and other economic sectors saw employment hold steady. Manufacturing, on the other hand, saw employment decline by 17,000 in August. A stronger dollar and worldwide economic weakness make US exports less desirable, leading to a flattening in manufacturing employment so far this year after steadily rising in the early years of the US economic recovery.

The solid overall job gains led analysts to slightly raise expectations for a decision by the Federal Reserve to raise interest rates this month. Investors raised the likelihood of a September rate increase from 26 percent before the jobs report to 30 percent, and stocks dropped by over one percent on Friday. “The payrolls data is certainly good enough to allow for a Fed rate hike in September,” said Deutsche Bank’s head of currency strategy, Alan Ruskin. “The big question is still whether financial market volatility will scupper the plans.”

“This is the first time the market has looked at a Fed meeting and really has no idea what the Fed is going to do,” said Mark Kepner, a New Jersey equity trader with Themis Trading. “Right now you’re looking at the overall uncertainty and that’s what’s hanging on the market. I don’t think this number in and of itself changes how somebody’s going to vote.”

Explosion in French college

Friday, March 24, 2006A large explosion ripped through a research building of the École Nationale Supérieure de Chimie de Mulhouse (ENSCMu) in Mulhouse, eastern France. Mulhouse’s mayor, Jean-Marie Bockel, confirmed that the blast killed one person and injured another. Police declared Code Red, and the neighborhood was evacuated.

According to the French Press, TF1, the victim was in his forties and had worked at the institition for about a year. A young woman was seriously injured and about a dozen people received minor injuries, with two suffering from shock. 150 firefighters were on the scene.

The ENSCMu is a technology college, with an enrollment of 8,000 and a 25-hectare campus near the town’s centre. It is known for its museum of coloring agents (Musée des Colorants), which has about 2700 samples, mainly from the second part of the nineteenth century. The museum’s database is available online in French.

The blast occurred at 11:25 GMT (12:25 local time). It is reported to have been heard two kilometres away and to have broken the windows of nearby buildings. The blast was followed by a fire that was contained by about 15:00 (local time).

The explosion’s cause is not yet clear but it is believed to have happened in a ground-floor laboratory in an annex building constructed in 1977. The lab was apparently focused on industrial safety.

Report of air crash near Abuja – over 100 feared dead

Sunday, October 29, 2006

Police are reporting that there has been a passenger jet crash near the Nigerian capital of Abuja. The ADC Airlines flight to Sokoto crashed shortly after take-off. More than 100 passengers were on board, many are feared dead.

An emergency spokesperson has stated that the plane burst into flames shortly afterwards, although eyewitnesses believe that there are some survivors from the crash. The task of recovering the dead is underway.

The BBC reports, that the crash was caused by a storm, contradict the area’s METAR, a standard form of aviation weather report, which indicated no major storm or bad weather in the area at the time of take-off. Winds were not severe and cloud cover was broken at 1200 feet, which would not impose a problem for passenger aircraft under normal operating conditions. However, multiple news agencies are reporting that a local radio station commented on bad weather at the time of the crash.

According to the airline’s web site, the flight that crashed was Flight 53, a Boeing 737, scheduled to take off from Abuja at 10:35 a.m. and land in Sokoto an hour later.

A local source said that the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Mohammadu Maccido, may have been on board. Senior government officials, senators, politicians and the son of one of Nigeria’s former presidents were on board.

A Sokoto State government spokesman Mustapha Sheu said that the northern state’s deputy governor, education commissioner and another senator were killed, along with the sultan and his son.

Sultan Muhammadu Maccido, revered as a leader of the Muslims in Nigeria and Niger, will be widely mourned. He will be remembered as the peace maker between sporadically warring Muslims and Christians in Nigeria.

The local hospital reports that seven survivors have been admitted. One is in a critical condition.

After visiting the crash site, Federal Territory Minister Mallam Nasir el-Rufai told the BBC that the condition of the plane was “deplorable”, with “bald tyres”.

Erp Consulting New Horizons

Submitted by: Andrew Karasev

Every new economy recovery and boom brings new type of business paradigm. It is true about economy in general as well as every market niche. General economic development should be left over to the economists and philosophers to review. Here we will try to draw the trends as we see them through the golden Clinton era time to the recession of 2000-2004 and now economy recovery for ERP consulting company. In our case we are Microsoft Business Solutions and IBM Lotus partner. This small article is not intended to become an initial topic for the discussion it is rather targeted for ERP client to analyze the trends in our industry and make right decision on the system and business partner:

ERP market consolidation. As ERP (Accounting, Logistics, Distribution, Warehouse Management, etc) become more and more mature product, we see less and less attempts to build new ERP package from scratch again it would seem as reinventing the bicycle. We see the consolidation on the mid-market level: Microsoft Business Solutions: Microsoft CRM, Great Plains, Navision, Axapta and Best Software: MASXXX. When large companies serve mid-market through their VARs and implementation partners the barrier to enter into the niche increases and it is difficult to start new business, targeted to midmarket clients: certification, initial purchase/investment, etc.

VARs consolidation. When we saw large number of independent Great Plains Software resellers, competing fiercely with each other (especially in Los Angeles and suburbs) consulting rates were on the relatively low level ($130 per hour) and you, as a potential customer could get a deal on the software price discount. When recession hit the market, customers placed the hold on new ERP purchases as well as new computer equipment, this trend left ERP consulting companies without cash flow and forced them either close the doors or merge with auditing firms to survive. New conglomerates dictate higher consulting rates and stay firm with the software pricelist. This strange fact leaves huge opportunity for opening new businesses simply hoping to provide decent service with small company low overheads

Consulting Paradigm Change. If you read classical business consulting literature, you can learn that 1960th were the time of business consulting, when you were going to the client to train them in classical marketing, management, accounting, etc. Universities took it over and all these disciplines soon become imbedded into the standard knowledge set of the university graduates. In the earlier 1990th consultant was onsite at the client place to train users to use ERP application. Now we have universities doing this job and employer is hiring graduates trained to use one or another ERP. Now we expect technical and application consulting combination, especially considering next bullet

Different Platforms Harmony. In 1990th such platforms as Windows, Macintosh, Unix (Linux, Solaris, AIX) considered counterparts as enemies and were fighting for the market to take over. Little by little they become to the conclusion that they all have rights to the existence and they need to communicate to each other in order to survive. Such inventions as multiplatform Java/EJB/J2EE, XML, HTML, JSP prove the future harmony. For the ERP consultant it means that she/he should be familiar with the competitors and be ready to suggest the integration between the platforms

Offshoring. This is really dangerous trend for the folks who are trying to make the career of the computer programmer in the States or Continental Europe. However most of these guys are from India, Russia, Pakistan, East Europe, Philippines, Brazil, so instead of giving up go ahead and launch your own practices and deploy the expertise of your overseas friends. Manufacturing is now went offshore now it is time for the programming to go offshore.

Von D from “LA Ink” TV series sets world record for tattooing

Wednesday, January 9, 2008

Realising how visual a medium tattooing is, tattoo artist Kat Von D of TV series LA Ink set a world record while raising funds to fight childhood blindness. In 24 hours, Von D tattooed 400 people with an “LA” logo, in her West Hollywood, California tattoo shop.

The December event at High Voltage Tattoo drew 1000 people in line, although only 400 could get the image emblazoned on them, for a $20 donation. Most learned of the event through her MySpace profile. In all, the funds raised will help 32,000 children’s eyesight, through Vitamin Angels.

Vitamin Angels is the only organization in the world solely dedicated to eradicating vitamin A definciency among children, with the goal of warding off youth blindness by 2020. The year 2020 is chosen because perfect vision is described as “20/20“.

First in line at the event was Jose Flores, who had camped out in front of the store since 7:15 the previous evening. Doors didn’t open until 10 am, and Flores didn’t get the tattoo until Von D was done with her friends and family, including internet celebrity Jeffree Star.

A Guinness World Records official was scheduled to attend, but was caught in a snow storm.

Katherine Von Drachenberg told the Los Angeles Times that, as a teenager, she “be at the mall and parents would grab their kids and be like, ‘Honey!’ It was like that scene in Pretty Woman, where the women on Rodeo Drive think Julia Roberts is going to shoplift. Now people just come up to me more out of curiosity — everyone from grandmas to soccer moms.”

The record setting event was filmed for LA Ink, a series that airs Tuesday nights on TLC in the United States. The series is a spin-off of Miami Ink, a series featuring Von D’s previous place of employ, before she set off on her own.

The series’ second season started last night, however that particular episode will air March 4.

Writs issued for 2012 Queensland election

Wednesday, February 22, 2012

The 2012 Queensland election has been officially set as Premier Anna Bligh advised Governor Penelope Wensley to issue the writs — the formal announcement of the election.

“Absolutely looking forward to it, the 24th of March,” Ms Bligh told reporters, referring to the date of the election.

To lose the ability to govern in its own right, the currently governing Australian Labor Party (ALP) would need to lose sevens seats in Queensland’s unicameral legislature.

Australian Labor Party — 51Liberal National Party — 31Independents — 5Katter’s Australian Party — 2

Total seats — 89

The ALP, of which Ms Bligh is leader, holds 51 seats. The opposition Liberal National Party (LNP), being lead in this campaign by the yet-to-be-elected Cambell Newman, currently holds 31 seats. Two seats are now held by the Katter’s Australian Party (KAP).Five independents make up the 89 Members of Parliament.

The KAP does not plan to direct preference to the major parties, but to consider for individual seats amongst independents and minor parties. “We will look at the merits or otherwise of their policy positions and what they believe in,” said Aidan McLindon.

While the Greens haven’t announced any preference directions, they point out that it is up to the voter how to direct preferences. “If I’m unsuccessful [in being elected in Mt Coot-tha], their vote flows at full value to their second preference,” Greens candidate Adam Stone said.

The selection of March 24th as the election date drew criticism because it ultimately forced the rescheduling of local government elections — originally scheduled for March 31.

“Why are 73 local government elections around Queensland being pushed back? That adds more months of uncertainty when she has had a year to separate out the two elections,” said Leader of the Liberal National Party, Campbell Newman. Newman will have to win the seat of Ashgrove if he is to become premier.

Local government elections are now scheduled for late April.
